That same design can make pole barns difficult to insulate. Wide framing, sweating metal surfaces, open eaves, and small gaps can allow heat and air to move in and out easily. Centex Insulation Solutions provides commercial spray foam insulation for pole barns and post-frame buildings around Georgetown and the surrounding area, helping keep your building drier, cooler, and more comfortable throughout the year.

The right plan starts with what happens inside the barn.
The main goal is to stop condensation. Water dripping from the roof leads to rust on tractors, trailers and tools. A layer of closed-cell foam on the underside of the roof, and on the walls if needed, keeps the metal dry. This is often the lowest-cost option.
If you plan to heat or cool the space, the whole barn needs to be sealed and insulated, including the walls, roof and gaps at the eaves. Thicker foam pays off here because it cuts what you spend running a window unit, mini-split or heater.
Closed-cell foam helps with heat and dripping in barns with animals. Two things matter here. First, animals can chew or peck at foam, so any foam within their reach should be covered with plywood, metal liner panels or a similar material. Second, animals need fresh air, so the barn still needs good ventilation after it is insulated.
Water dripping from the roof can make hay and feed mold. For these barns, stopping condensation on the roof comes first.
If you plan to turn your pole barn into a home or guest space, the insulation plan changes. See our barndominium insulation page for more on insulating a metal building you live in.
It sprays directly onto metal and wood and fills around posts, braces, and odd angles.
It does not need extra framing to hold it in place, which saves time and material.
It seals gaps along the eaves, the roof peak, and panel seams.
Closed-cell foam stiffens the metal panels, which can cut down on rattling in the wind.
Sealed gaps leave fewer ways for wasps, birds, and mice to get in.
Blown-in insulation can also be a good fit for pole barns with enclosed walls or ceilings, providing even coverage where the space allows for it.
Start with the roof. The roof takes the most sun and causes most of the dripping. If your budget is tight, insulating only the roof gives the biggest improvement for the money in most barns.
Add the walls if you plan to heat or cool the barn, if the walls sweat, or if you want to seal out dust and pests.
Plan for the doors. Large sliding doors and roll-up doors let air in around their edges. Spray foam cannot seal a door that moves, so if you are heating or cooling the space, add weatherstripping or door seals as well.
Open-cell foam gives about R-3.5 to R-3.8 per inch and costs less per inch. It can be a good choice for a fully enclosed and finished pole barn or steel-frame building where sound control matters and moisture is properly managed. For steel buildings, metal building insulation can help improve temperature control and reduce condensation. During the site visit, we will recommend the insulation option that best fits your building, use, and moisture conditions.
We give you a clear quote after seeing the barn, so you know the cost before any work starts.
Upgrading your insulation doesn’t need to be complicated. At Cen-Tex Insulation Solutions, we’ve simplified the process into three clear steps, so you can enjoy a more comfortable, efficient space without the stress.
1. Site visit.
2. Quote and plan.
Before the crew arrives, move what you can away from the walls, and tell us about anything that cannot be moved so we can cover it. Animals should be moved out of the barn during spraying and kept out for about a day afterward, or longer if the foam maker’s guidance calls for it. We will give you a timeline with your quote.
If the roof drips, the barn gets too hot to work in, or stored items are rusting, then yes. A layer of closed-cell foam on the roof stops condensation and cuts heat, even in a barn with no AC or heater.
Yes. Closed-cell foam bonds directly to metal roof and wall panels. The metal needs to be clean and dry, and any roof leaks should be fixed first.
Animals should stay out during spraying and while the foam cures. After that, the main concern is animals chewing or pecking at it, so foam within their reach should be covered.
Yes. The foam goes on the walls and roof, not the floor. Keep in mind that a dirt or gravel floor lets ground moisture into the barn. If you plan to heat or cool the space, a vapor barrier or concrete floor will help the insulation do its job.
In most pole barns, yes. Batts need extra framing to hold them, can sag or fall out, hold moisture and attract pests. Spray foam costs more per square foot, but it needs no extra framing, seals gaps and stops condensation.
It depends on how the barn is used and on local rules. Foam in areas where people work, or where animals can reach, is usually covered. We will explain what your barn needs before we start.
